Listen to the words of the prophets
"Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets." -Amos 3:7

It really wouldn't be possible to celebrate Easter and the Resurrection of Jesus Christ without the testimony of prophets and apostles. Who told us of the empty tomb? Peter, John and the other ancient Apostles.
Who told us to look forward to the Savior? Adam, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Isaiah, Jeremiah and all the holy prophets of old. Without these witnesses, who would know about God and Jesus Christ?
Sometimes we hear of people who say, "I don't need an organized religion, because I can worship Jesus on my own", or "I have the Bible. Who needs more?"
This is kind of like finding a person who politely thanks you for delivering a pan of the most delicious brownies, but refuses to have any more in the future, because the ones he already ate were so good.
The Scriptures never say, "the end". On the contrary, they point us to the reality of the resurrection, and the Savior's imminent return to the Earth. This will require most careful and thorough preparation on our part. It requires raising our vision and improving our discipleship. The ancient disciples got epistles from apostles. Disciples of Christ in our day also receive epistles from the Lord through living prophets and apostles. These messages fortify our faith and give us needed direction.
"If a man die, he shall live again. We know, for we have the light of revealed truth." -Thomas S. Monson, I Know That My Redeemer Lives!, 2007
